May is National Burger Month!

I was kinda bummed about saying farewell to National Grilled Cheese Month until I found out May is National Hamburger Month (!!!!).

Who doesn't love a good, juicy piece of meat?! The thicker, the better, and we love that you can find the absolute best burgers right here in town.

This month is a chance to really go overboard with burgers as a number of spots are doing special deals you don't want to miss:

Take the "Big Timmy" Burger Challenge during lunch or dinner at Timothy O'Toole's Pub. The massive sandwich comes piled with two half-pound patties, Cheddar, Jack, Mozzarella, Swiss, bacon, onion straws, BBQ sauce, lettuce and red onion piled high. It's a whopping $19.99, but also comes with fries and onion rings. If you eat every morsel, you won't get it comped, but they will give you a free tee. Plus, they're doing daily drink specials, including $4 Cuervo margaritas and shots (Monday); $4 Smirnoff cocktails (Tuesday); $5 Jameson & $3 PBR (Wednesday); and $5 Captain Morgan cocktails (Thursday).

Lucky for you, Fiddlehead Cafe features burger night every Wednesday, so you'll be able to take advantage of the $5 Angus burger or $8 Special Burger Menu (BBQ Brisket Burger, Duck Confit Burger, etc.) long after May is over.

Who wants to split this with me?! Timothy O'Toole's' "Big Timmy" Burger is available through May 31. (Photo: Timothy O'Toole's)

If your pockets are really hurting, head to Hearty for $1 sliders. The grilled mini-burgers are made with Executive Chef Dan Smith's signature garlic-herb seasoning, and to amp them up add Taleggio, white cheddar or Gruyère for an additional 50 cents. For an extra $3, add tater tots or fries. Available Wednesday only.

Hump Day must be a big day for hamburgers because that's when Province does a deal as well. Each Wednesday, they do Burger & Brew Night, so you can indulge in a tasty Dietzler Farms burger paired with a Three Floyds draft for $10.

You'll have to wait until May 24 for Park Grill to kick off its annual Burger Fest. The event continues through May 31 and includes an "all star" menu of Executive Chef Bernie Laskowski’s eight signature burgers. Standouts include the Peppercorn-Crusted American Kobe Burger on a Pretzel Bun ($15); the grass-fed burger with sauteed mushrooms on a Kaiser roll ($11); dry-aged burger topped with smoked-aged Gouda ($11); 28 MPH Burger of Black Angus, pulled BBQ pork, Ancho cured bacon and crisp egg ($11); and Wild Alaskan Salmon Burger served with ginger pineapple relish and Napa cabbage kimchi salad ($12). Each comes with hand-cut fries or chips.

And who wants to join us every Monday for the $5 Burger Barn Special at Stanley's on Lincoln?! The deal includes all the toppings you can drop as well as fries, fried dill pickle, and soup or salad. For an extra $5, you can indulge in a vodka lemonade or "spiked" milkshake (mmmmmm, Maker's Mark!).
