Dad is King of the Scene This Weekend!
How come Dad always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to his big day?!
Wack-ass ties. Cologne that smells more like shoe polish. And frou-frou brunches fit for a queen, not a king.
Not this year. Instead, give him what he really wants and take him to an event like the annual Classic Car Brunch at McGee's Tavern.
In its fourth year, CCB occurs Father's Day (June 20) and showcases the muscle cars of his wildest dreams. Look for classic cars to line Webster Avenue at Sheffield all afternoon. There's a bonus if you've got a muscle car to flex yourself: Park it and you'll get brunch for free. 10am-3pm Sunday.
Leave the corny Father's Day stuff to Mr. Brady. Poppa won't preach if you treat him like this:
Balsan: Three-course seasonal brunch includes bourbon-infused French toast with blueberry maple syrup; corn beef hash and eggs; and the signature Elysian eggs with hash browns, bacon or sausage. It's $38 per person, plus Dads get a sneak preview of the all new, redesigned BMW 2011 5 Series Sedan, a gift certificate for a complimentary cocktail in Bernard’s and a shave in the Men’s Atelier spa.
C-View: Spring for tickets to the BBQ Bootcamp, hosted by newly crowned "Top Chef Master" Marcus Samuelsson. Happens one week after Dad's Day on June 26-27.

David Burke’s Primehouse: Brunch in a Box continues at the contemporary steakhouse, with The Big Bull and The Little Bull additions for Father's Day. For $42, Big Bull diners get a savory combination of petite filet with garlic spinach, Petite Kansas City sirloin with asparagus and Delmonico with basil whipped potatoes. The Little Bull, at $21, includes 207L beef tips, grilled steak and shortrib dumplings. Bonus: Dads ordering one of the bull boxes also get a gratis bottle of Burke’s steak sauce.
Excalibur: More freebies for fathers. Comedians who've appeared on "Def Comedy Jam," "BET Comic View" and "The Bad Boys of Comedy" perform a special show, where dads will be admitted free. We have to warn you; their jokes will make even the most hardcore blush. Two shows: 5 and 8pm Sunday. Order the free tickets at 312-994-2428 by 5pm Friday.
Kenmore Live Studio: Make Dad's day an interactive one this year at this River North venue, where everyone can get in on a little table tennis action with Killerspin pros. After everyone works up an appetite, get ready for a feast of BBQ burgers grilled by District Bar Executive Chef Charles Anderson. 11am-2pm Sunday. Free.
Market: Treat your dad to some glorious grub of bourbon-soaked French toast or a breakfast pizza (Italian sausage, roasted peppers, arugula, onion marmalade and Sunny Side Up eggs), then head over to the last day of Taste of Randolph, which is just steps away from the restaurant. Afro-Latin-Indian groovers Funkadesi perform at 8pm if you can hang. Also, don't forget to toast your dad at Market with a special whiskey flight of Jack Daniels, Gentleman Jack and Jack Daniels Single Barrel for $12. Brunch is 11am-3pm; festival happens 2-10pm.
Nana: Sunday supper starts here just in time for Father's Day, with the multi-course meal served family-style for two or more at $22 a person. This weekend's menu includes Deviled eggs, maple-glazed bacon (with pepper basil from Nana's garden!), Gunthorp Farms fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, jalapeno slaw and more. It's BYO with no corkage fee; we suggest bringing your best scotch for the occasion. 3-10pm.
The Signature Room: And you can make a reservation or (get a gift certificate) for Dad to join the festivities at the Buffalo Trace Bourbon dinner happening June 27. Five courses created by Executive Chef Patrick Sheerin will be paired with signature bourbon cocktails. 6pm reception; 6:30pm dinner. Call 312-280-0472 for the $75 tix.
