Cool Off With Frosty Treats During National Ice Cream Month
The heat's on and you need to cool off.
If you're not down with the rolling street carts and old-school ice cream trucks, here are some gourmet options you will love:
Black Dog Gelato: You've gotta get there early for the famed whiskey gelato bar, which sells out as soon as doors open. But if you miss out, no worries. Gelato flavors in Mexican hot chocolate, goat cheese-cashew caramel and sesame fig chocolate chip are certain to put a smile on your face.
Cone: The new, Irish-inspired conery in the West Loop offers offbeat flavors paying homage to Ireland. Slainte! to creative cones such as The Blarney Turtle (vanilla ice cream with roasted peanuts and caramel) and Sprouting Shamrock (cookie dough ice cream with Oreos and gummy worms).
David Burke's Primehouse: Each Friday this summer, Executive Pastry Chef Jove Hubbard showcases a pop-up ice-cream social. Look for unique spins on childhood faves, such as Rocky Road with chocolate ice cream, beer marshmallows and smoked almonds. Jumbo cones are $5 a scoop; cash only. 3-5pm Fridays.
M Burger: The low-fat ice cream selection includes chocolate, vanilla and swirl cones; dipped cones with toppings of hot fudge, crunchy peanut butter, butterscotch or toasted almond with coconut; and hot fudge, strawberry, hot caramel and espresso sundaes. Oh, and the "shake of the month" is S'mores.
Purple Pig: You can find more tempting soft serve on the menu at the pork-obsessed eatery. It comes in peppermint with peppermint candies or salted caramel.
