Table Fifty-Two's Art Smith participates in this weekend's Chicago Gourmet event, but he's also taking a stand against homophobia with an event of his own.

His response to the Barilla chairman's stance against gay marriage is Take the Hate Off the Plate, a brunch he's hosting at his house with his husband artist Jesus Salgueiro. The event takes place at 2pm Saturday in the garden of their Hyde Park residence. The first 50 people to email Art Smith will get an invite to the brunch to show their support.

Smith is also partnering with fellow Top Chef Masters competitor Lorena Garcia for a South by South dinner at Table Fifty-Two. That event happens 5-9pm Sunday as the chefs merge their favorite Southern American and Venezuela dishes for one memorable meal. Reservations are limited by calling the restaurant.

No worries if you didn't get tickets to Hamburger Hop, the Friday night highlight of Chicago Gourmet. Tickets are still available for The Late Night Gourmet, which serves as the event's official after-party. It takes place at Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel (Atlantic Ballroom, 221 N. Columbus Dr.) and includes cocktails, light bites and "deejays" Graham Elliot (Graham Elliot) and Ryan Poli (Tavernita) spinning. It happens 9pm-midnight. Tickets are still available.

Drinkingbird jumps into the brunch game this weekend. Some of the standouts include Elvis Pancakes (buckwheat pancakes, bacon lardons, bananas flambé, crunchy peanut-maple syrup) and a corned beef hash that comes with in-house brined Meyer brisket with poached eggs, bacon-braised cabbage, shaved onion and pickled peppers. Morning libations include Brandy "Milk" Punch of Pierre Ferrand 1840, Myers Dark Rum, coconut cream and nutmeg. Brunch takes place 11am-3pm Saturday and Sunday.
