What's Hot: The King of Pop, Pride Weekend . . .
Last year's "Back Lot Bash" drew more than 2,500 post-Pride revelers.
The celebration of the GLBT community has been going on all month, but it culminates in Chicago Sunday with the annual Pride Parade, taking place in Lakeview.
Now, you can't have Pride without the parties, so thankfully events are happening all over town, including the seventh-annual Back Lot Bash that occurs Saturday and Sunday in Andersonville.
Though it's open to all, more than 2,500 women are expected to attend the two-day festival for live music, food and some serious socializing.
It's shaping up to also be an all-female lineup of talent, including The Betty Fords, Crazy Rocket, Gina Glocksen and Shy Violet. And if you're a fan of Oxygen's recent season of "The Bad Girls Club," you'll recognize a familiar face: Popular castmember Flo serves as one of the hosts.
Back Lot Bash is 3-10pm Saturday; 2-10pm Sunday at 5238 N. Clark St. (behind Cheetah Gym). $10 until 5pm; $15 after.
So much more going on for Pride Weekend, plus some special tributes to The King of Pop—Michael Jackson—on the first year anniversary of his death . . .
Several spots around town will dedicate sets to Michael Jackson this weekend, which is the first anniversary of his death.
Avenue Tavern: How convenient! The bar's located directly in front of the parade, so mark your spot and get there early. They're doing drink specials, and deejays Ricky Sinz, Milty Evans, Harry "The Blade," G-Dubs and Louie Loop will take turns behind the decks. Also, Milty is a huge MJ fan, so expect a lot of love for the Gloved One here. 3-8pm Sunday. Free.
Crimson Lounge: Frankie Knuckles. Frankie Knuckles. Frankie %)$*&^%$#@#$%^ Knuckles. The Godfather of House Music drops in for his monthly residence and to spread the funk only as he can. 9pm-3am Saturday. $10 with RSVP to info@crimsonchicago.com; $20 without.
Excalibur/Vision: This Friday debuts Final Fridays at the Haunted Castle, with a monthly midnight showing of the "Rocky Horror Show." Guests are encouraged to dress up and participate in the interactive experience with live actors singing and dancing to "The Time Warp." Specialty cocktails, at $5 each, include the Sweet Transves-tini for the Screaming Orgasm, the Time Warp and a Virgin Mary. Before the festivities, Rico Michael Jackson, one of the country's top impersonators, will do some signature dance moves. That's at 9:30pm. $15.
Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club: Look for their booth to be bedazzled in outrageous splendor during the weekend for Pride events, particularly because it's right on the parade route. Bangin' beats and cocktail specials, including an official-looking Pride potion, will be up for grabs. And beads, lots and lots of them. 11am-2am Saturday, Sunday. No cover.
Katy Perry performs at Vision Sunday for an after-Pride party.
Le Passage: Have you been to Glitter yet?! No? What the hell are you waiting for?! The hottest party in Chicago usually happens every third Thursday of the month, but they're throwing a special edition for post-Pride revelers. The hosts have also teamed up with ChicagoPride to host the official after-party for the parade. The question is: Will folks still be standing straight from 9pm-4am?! Guest deejays Zebo, All The Way Kay, Earth-Tone DJs, Ross Kelly and Joe Vor Tech, plus a huge deejay star will spin. Tickets $15 in advance here or $20 at door.
The Shrine: Licorice Saturdays pays special tribute to MJ with a memorable soul session. 9pm-3am. $10 before 11:30pm.
SUB 51: They're flying in celeb DJ Klutch for the weekly Outfit party, which means he must be pretty ill. And since the guy's down with hip-hop and soul, I suspect he'll be dedicating quite a portion to the one and only Michael Jackson. 9pm-2am Friday. Free.
Vibe: I guarantee the Glee Club will be the biggest after-Pride party for the black folks. Formerly Crobar, Vibe brings in a seriously stylish hip-hop crowd that takes clubbing to the next level. 9pm-4am Sunday. $10 and tickets can be had here.
Vision: For this after-Pride party, Katy Perry performs, which means she'll have to do her catchy girl-on-girl anthem, "I Kissed A Girl." Deejays Theresa and Hector Fonseca spin. 9pm-4am Sunday.
