Speakeasy, Bottomless Mimosas & More . . .
Some events to get you through the week—and beyond:
Frontier's "speakeasy" event happens every other Wednesday, beginning Nov. 2. That's when you'll get a number of classic Templeton Rye cocktails, including Manhattans and Cherry Smashes for $5. The "speakeasy" part comes in when you RSVP at speakeasychi@gmail.com to get directions on how to enter through a secret door. Live music by Jonathan Marks of Hey Champ and guests will be entered to win a $50 bar tab for every specialty speakeasy cocktail they purchase. 8pm every other Wednesday. No cover.
Seems like everyone's doing a boozy brunch these days. Last week I told you about the $15 bottomless Mimosas at MorSo, and now two more spots are getting in on that action. You can also get them at The Bedford and 25 Degrees every Sunday during brunch hours.

Speaking of special Sunday deals, Keefer's celebrates its 10-year anniversary this month with a three-course Sunday supper for $25. Dinner begins with lobster bisque or salad Lynonnaise, then diners get the choice of prime Delmonico steak, Scottish salmon papillote, veal scallopine or roast chicken (each served with potato mushroom gratin and chipotle-vanilla squash puree). And Monday through Friday throughout November, there's a $10 lunch special of choices like braised rabbit over papardelle or a hearty version of pho with noodles, braised beef, pork, noodles, Asian herbs and chile paste.
And if you're out and about on a Monday night, Folklore is the under-the-radar spot to be. That's where The Office at the Aviary mixologist Jason Cevallos spends one night a week. Since it's damn near impossible to get into The Office, this is your best bet to check him out, plus the cocktails are half the price! Annnnd mixmaster Shon Dervis—another underrated star—spins dub, hip-hop, soul and classic hits that perfectly complement those cocktails.
I am a huge fan of Jason and his exceptional mixology skills, and I would encourage everyone to seek out this talent wherever possible. While Folklore's cocktails are exceptional, comparing them to The Office cocktails is like comparing apples with oranges. The Office uses a variety of rare and exceptional top shelf spirits, special glassware, over 200 house-made tinctures, and a variety of crystal-clear ice cubes especially made for each cocktail. The love and attention that goes into Jason's cocktails may be the same at both venues, but the raw ingredients he has to work with are significantly different. Bottom line: cocktails at The Office are worth twice as much as those at Folklore. Try both if you can! He never, ever disappoints. Cheers!
