Today's Nightlife: Is It About Music or Mixology?!
I'm trying to gauge people's minds on where they stand when going out on the town.
Is it about the music or the mixology?! The mix master or the mixologist? I feel as though the deejay culture—well at least in Chicago—has taken a back seat to Chicago's ever-growing cocktail culture. What used to be carefully curated musical programs at night spots are now focusing on craft beers and booze.
For example, several night spots took home awards at Time Out Chicago's annual "Eat Out" awards, but not for music.
Sooo. And not to hurt anyone's feelings, but I'd love to get your thoughts on this subject. When you go out, is it to check out a particular deejay and his music or a bartender and what he/she has to offer?!
Actually I think it's about the music, and I'm a drink loving foodie. I think a great drink is better appreciated when you can focus on it, and the swill that some of these places sling works if the music is good and your attention is on the crowd.
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree! I love a great cocktail, but if the atmosphere and music are jarring, the experience is minimized.
ReplyDeleteI do feel as though deejays are not getting the attention they once garnered and that many places would rather have piped-in music to set the mood rather than pay an extra person.
