'Bar Rescue' Star Jon Taffer Gets Shut Down By Three Dots and a Dash's Paul McGee

I get frequent pitches from the publicists behind Jon Taffer—the acerbic host of Spike TV's "Bar Rescue"—who push him as "an internationally recognized, award-winning hospitality expert, highly respected management guru, author of the ultimate guide to running a bar/restaurant/nightclub entitled 'Raise The Bar,' and a esteemed tastemaker and go-to source for the newest trends in the food, beverage & nightlife industries."

With those credentials, you'd think he'd know which spots to target for his show—which claims to "give failing nightlife establishments one last chance at success."

Apparently not in Chicago.

On Wednesday, Three Dots and a Dash's Paul McGee got a call from Taffer's office. That's pretty perplexing, considering that the slick, Polynesian-inspired lounge has garnered a number of accolades since opening last summer, including from the Chicago Tribune 2014 Dining Awards and prestigious Jean Banchet Awards. The bar also draws lines down the alley almost every night of the week.

Needless to say, Three Dots doesn't fit in the "failing nightlife establishments" category. Here was Paul McGee's priceless response when he received the call:

I'm only wondering if the next calls were to Charles Joly (The Aviary) and Mike Ryan (Sable Kitchen & Bar).

I got that call too. Hopleaf obviously is a failing enterprise in need of his help.

remember the show is backed by Diageo so maybe the company is using the show to get product placement in accounts they want to own distribution in?

Is it possible that they were looking to Paul to be one of the experts who go and save other bars? I just cannot imagine that of all people and bars they would look to Pau land Three Dots in need of help!
