Last Call for the West Loop's Sushi Wabi

Photobucket

While the West Loop's Randolph Street strip is gearing up for a busy summer with the arrivals of Belly Q, G.E.B., RM Champagne Salon and a couple other restaurants, there will be one spot sorely missed: Sushi Wabi.

312DD just got a tip that the stylish sushi spot will have its final service on April 21.

A call to the restaurant resulted in this answer: "Sushi Wabi is definitely closing, and it will cease to exist." No reason for its closing was given, but I was given a heads up on this story last summer. They held on as long as they could.

That's too damn bad.

UPDATE: Another Ultimate Insider close to the story had this to say: "(Sushi Wabi co-owner) Susan Traina Thompson rented a place across from the old Marche about 8 months ago... . She's not having any partners (in the new venture)."

ANOTHER UPDATE: Angela Lee, another partner, tells 312DD: "Wabi is not officially closing the 21st, that information is not accurate. We are indeed losing our lease, but the date for last day of service is up in the air. Additionally, Susan and I together have signed a lease across the street, but have not disclosed the concept at this time."

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Holy Crap. Another partner weighs in with Eater Chicago and it is definitely closing on April 21. Shit is getting real.

Sushi Wabi's service was a train wreck, and in this town, that doesn't fly. They will not be missed.

Sad day in west loop as I frequented wabi many times. Luckily for us west loopers, there's another sushi place right around the corner from Wabi on Lake street called Anna's asian bistro. Their sushi is on par with wabi and they also have phenomenal thai food. Its also byob.

Susan and Angela are terrible people, and even worse to work for. Nothing new they put together will even hold a match to what they had with Wabi, I can't even wish them a sarcastic "good luck".

will miss Wabi for sure, won't miss Susan and Angela, and will definitely not support any of their new ventures.

Susan Thompson did at one time own (in partnership) De Cero, but no longer does.

I loved Wabi. I didn't know they were closing. My friends and I will miss it.
