Where To Give Back This Thanksgiving Season

thanksgiving

Quite a few restaurants are jumping in to help those less fortunate. Here's where you can also help:

DMK Burger Bar. Each month, the Lakeview burger joint supports a well-known charity by donating a portion of the proceeds from a signature sandwich and drink. This month's organization is Meals on Wheels.

Headquarters Beercade. Through Sunday, customers are encouraged to drop off frozen turkeys to benefit the Lakeview Pantry. Last year they collected 120 turkeys and this year they're looking for kind souls like yourself to donate at least 500 birds.

Hideout Inn. The pre-Thanksgiving edition of Soup & Bread is raising funds to help Brooklyn restaurant The Good Fork, which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. A number of local restaurants are on board to donate soup and pastries, including the likes of Lula Cafe, Swim Cafe, Schwa and Milk & Honey. They're collecting donations of all types at the door. 6-8pm Nov. 21.

Kit Kat Lounge. Donate canned goods or nonperishable food items to get half off on dinner at this lively Lakeview supper club. Collections happen Nov. 21-22 (Thanksgiving), with a special prix-fixe menu for $40 (that's $20 with a donation). Diners may also get the discount when ordering from the regular menu as well as cocktails. All collections will be donated to Vital Bridges in support of its Harvest for Hope food drive.

Mercadito. 312DD's tasty Taco For Strength benefiting Share Our Strength.

Yolk. Bring in nonperishable food items to any location (River North, South Loop, Streeterville) and receive 10 percent off your entree. Proceeds benefit Red Cross to benefit Sandy victims.
