Brave The @#$%^&*&^%$ Blizzard!

Leave it to my Mom to start reciting the "Ant and the Grasshopper" to me now that the Blizzard of 2011 is upon us. And I will admit that I'm a bit of a grasshopper when it comes to getting ready for these events, but I know I'll be fine in the end.

One of the reasons is because I've got the stamina—and the right winter boots—to trek it to a cool spot for yummy cocktails and cuisine. Plus, many are doing noteworthy deals in our time of need:

The Beer Bistro: If you manage to ride your skis/board (YES, you read that correct!), you'll get free bistro chips at this West Loop microbrewery.

Boka Restaurant Group: Head to Landmark or Perennial tonight and get 25 percent off your bill. Wednesday, you'll get the discount at the two restaurants, plus Boka.

Branch 27: If you arrive to the West Town eatery by snowmobile tonight or tomorrow, you'll get half off your bill.

Ceres' Table: You might as well get a little loopy tonight, so take advantage of their Tuesday night special: half-price bottles of wine with dinner. Or if you go there Wednesday, get ready for the $35 prix-fixe menu where you get one appetizer, one entree, a dessert, and one glass of Chianti or Orvieto.

HUB 51: Hang here for Groundhog Day (Wednesday!) and get a $3 Sweet Vermouth on the rocks as you watch "Groundhog Day" playing in the bar all damn day long.

Leopold: Live in the 60622 zip code?! You'll get gratis poutine when you show your ID tonight.

Mercadito: All month, guests can order up signature tacos made by father-and-son celebrity chefs Jimmy Bannos Sr. Heaven on Seven and Jimmy Bannos Jr. The Purple Pig. Get the elder's Cajun creation of a fried catfish taco with hot remoulade sauce and cabbage or Junior's ode to pork with the porchetta taco with tomatillo salsa, shaved radishes and cabbage. Both tacos will be available for dinner (four per order) for $16 or for lunch (three per order) for $12. A portion of the proceeds benefits Share Our Strength.

Old Town Social: If you make it over to the Old Town hot spot tonight, you'll get half off on the entire menu, plus $3 beer specials.

Schubas: Grab your skis and head over to this venerable music lounge
Wednesday for a free bowl of soup.

The Southern: The Southern-inspired Bucktown restaurant celebrates its first anniversary with a complimentary cocktail reception and Low Country boil. 5-7pm Thursday.

Sprinkles: Buy one dozen cupcakes and get a free cup of their signature hot Belgian chocolate that's topped with a fluffy, all-natural vanilla bean marshmallow. Noon-7pm Wednesday.

Three Aces: Little Italy's "gastropunk" is doing 25 cent meatballs, plus $5 beers and shots for its first-ever Snowdown Throwdown. And if you think that's badass, they're also building a bar from snow in the parking lot where there will be snowball fights.

Witts: If you live in the 60657 zip code, get to this Lakeview bar tonight for a free cup of yellow split pea soup with lardons, carrots and truffle oil. Guests will also get Winter Storm '11 shots.

NOTE: Call all restaurants and bars to make sure they're still open before heading out.
