Pucker Up For 'Give Me Some Sugar'

Photobucket

I know what you're thinking—and likely with a groan—that we don't need any more pastry spots around town, but this one's a bit different. And I think you'll love it.

Give Me Some Sugar, a unique new sweets shop from chef Alekka Sweeney, opens in Roscoe Village on Nov. 5. She's been in business since 2006, mostly working the in-house party circuit, but this is her first storefront. She previously staged with Gale Gand at Tru, Vosges Haut Chocolates and the pastry teams at the Hotel Inter-Continental.

What sets Give Me Some Sugar apart from its competitors is that it's interactive, providing culinary instruction for adults and children. That'll be a good thing for those looking for something different to do as the holiday approaches.

The BYOB venue is more than 1,200 square feet, offers a "vintage meets new" vibe, and is ideal for private parties, after-work meetups or date nights. Guests will learn how to decorate cakes and cookies, make candy, pair sweets with cocktails and wine, as well as perfectly decorate a gingerbread house.

Just know that classes are a bit pricey, starting at $75 per person.
