In mid-April, 312DD reported that Hot Chocolate was closing for a few weeks to undergo some renovations.

It's been open for more than 10 years and owner Mindy Segal (freshly crowned James Beard's Outstanding Pastry Chef 2012) decided it was time for an update. As scheduled, the Bucktown mainstay reopens in time for Mother's Day. Segal told 312DD Monday that she's "planning to reopen Wednesday."

What to expect?!

She revealed to Time Out Chicago:

"Her restaurant will have not just a new look but a new menu, and a new philosophy about food. The menu at HotChocolate will be simpler. You could say it will be more mindful. It will definitely be more Mindy. 'I'm a dyslexic pastry chef with ADHD who is integrity-driven and doesn't want to be a five-restaurant restaurateur,' she says. For the first time in years, she's okay with that."

UPDATE: Segal says it's now reopening May 10.

This is pretty exciting!
