It looks like Chicago finally got off Esquire's shit list.

We've been noticeably missing from John Mariani's prestigious annual list for Best New Restaurants two years in a row, so it's great to see that we're getting some love once again. The West Loop's Embeya and Wicker Park's Carriage House made the cut, with Embeya also getting honors of "dish of the year."

That's pretty sweet!

Here's what Mariani had to say about those props:

"At Embeya in Chicago, chef Thai Dang combines tender rabbit meat with blazing Thai chiles, fresh garbanzo beans for texture, and royal-trumpet mushrooms for a woodsy backbeat in a dish that is as hearty as it is bursting with flavor."

And on Carriage House:

"With communal tables and farmhouse accents that avoid Epcot Center phoniness, Carriage House is close in spirit and flavor to the best restaurants in Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, and Memphis, and better than many. Chef Mark Steuer refines beloved dishes so that they’re true to form yet entirely his."

Esquire's index of the Best New Restaurants of 2013 is featured in the November issue, and on newsstands Oct. 15.
